1970s Ken Scott Printed Velvet Belted Coat
This coat is just incredible! Created by the multifaceted artist Ken Scott, this coat features one his designs translated onto a lush green velvet. Its quintessential 70s silhouette is elevated by the Ken Scott monogramed buttons, belt and adjustable straps for the sleeves.
an excerpt taken from Ken Scott's website
"Born in 1918 in Indiana - USA, Scott showed a strong passion for painting at a young age, and this led him to study in New York. These were intense and fertile years of success and experimentation. Following his free and curious spirit, he moved to Europe in 1946. First to Paris and the French Riviera, where Scott led a bohemian life, and arriving in Milan in 1955. And it was here that Scott founded the Falconetto brand.
Starting from textiles, the artist revolutionised the style of that time. Bright and sunny colours, unpredictable combinations, and joyful flowers became his "trademark." Since 1962 he signed collections of clothes and accessories making him internationally renowned. Scott’s rise was unstoppable, his production varied, and his research and method were avant-garde. His unbridled imagination and his inherent irony was accompanied by extraordinary technical skills and his most diverse creations were undeniably immortal."

Interesting and Hypnotizing full length maxi by Leonard.
This spot on dress blends aspects of tribal art with autumnal colors on a black ground. It boasts a 70's style attached necktie and bishop sleeves that were popular for that era. Buttons are fabric covered and create a front closure. This dress is full length and the print is too entrancing to ignore as it zig-zags throughout the entirety of the garment.
It would be interesting to see how this dress would look styled with geometric or gold brutalist style jewelry.
Leonard was first a textile company then in 1954 Daniel Tribouillard joined the house and in 1958 began making garments. The prints are designer bright florals on silk jersey knit fabric. The house is still alive today and creates lines similar to those from the past preserving a unique style.

Brilliant late 1970s slinky knit maxi dress by Louis Feraud! The dress has long sleeves, a jewel collar, and a cinched waist further accented by a knit tube belt. The dress features an amazing Peter - Max - style technicolor rainbow - like swirl across the shoulders and skirt, giving the dress an energetic appearance of being in motion. The shoulders have a slight puff sleeve to them, predicting the impending, rampant, voluminous balloon sleeves of the 1980s.
Louis Feraud was born in 1921, in Arles in the south of France. Feraud’s early life was idyllic, he was the son of a baker and spent his childhood under the mediterranean sun. His happiness was short lived, and in his youth he became an operative in the French Resistance. After World War II Feraud worked various jobs, including as a ski instructor. He eventually established his first boutique in Cannes in 1954. His clientele included wealthy vacationers, and his first big break was when Brigitte Bardot came in and purchased a white sundress. He would go on to design many of her film costumes.
By 1956 Feraud had opened a couture house in Paris across from the Elysee Palace. A few years later, in 1958, he presented his first haute couture collection alongside other Parisian fashion luminaries including Dior, Givenchy, and Lanvin. Feraud created his first ready to wear line in 1970, and introduced his menswear line in 1975. He won the “Golden Thimble” for his 1978 Haute Couture Spring/Summer line and went on to win again in 1984. In 1991 he was chosen as “Prince de l'Art de Vivre” and in 1955 Feraud was made a “Officier de la Légion d'honneur.”
Feraud dressed the Paris elite in bright, striking colors. His silhouettes ranged from traditional suits to avant-garde ruffled pieces. Throughout the years, he employed designers Jean-Louis Scherrer, Margit Brandt, Helga Bjornsson and Per Spook to help materialize his vision.

Outstanding and substantial clear and green rhinestone floral brooch by Larry Vrba! The brooch depicts a five - petaled flower on a stem with two generously - sized leaves. The flower is composed of several tiers of multifaceted rhinestone and grey pearl arrangements, layered to give the flower more volume and sparkle. The two leaves branch out from a clear rhinestone stem, and are primarily made up of green rhinestones with clear rhinestone blades. Signed "Lawrence VRBA" on back.
Lawrence Vrba began his career in 1969, working as a counter at Miriam Haskell; his talents did not go unnoticed, and he soon found himself designing jewelry. In 1970, when Miriam Haskell’s Head Designer, Bob Clark, left to work at Castlecliff, Vrba followed. Vrba spread his wings at Castlecliff, spearheading the famous Mayan collection, inspired by jewelry and adornments he saw on display at the Museum of Natural History in New York City. In 1973, after a two year stint at Castlecliff, Vrba returned to Miriam Haskell as head designer. Vrba continued to explore and expand the possibilities of costume jewelry, fashioning fine, unique pieces using materials he collected from across the globe. The Egyptian collection - perhaps his most famous Miriam Haskell collection- was inspired by materials he found while in Europe, and was featured in an edition of Vogue. In 1981s, Vrba left Miriam Haskell to work for Les Bernard, where his designs were displayed at Dillard’s for three years. In 1983 Vrba left Les Bernard to create his own eponymous business.
Vrba pieces are noted for their unusual materials, scale, and opulence!
Vrba has created pieces for theatre (including Broadway hits “Wicked”, “Exit the King”, “Blythe Spirit”, “Lend Me a Tenor”, and “Hairspray”, and the Metropolitan Opera), cinema, and private customers. His pieces have been featured at Bergdorf Goodman, Vogue, and Vogue Nippon. Clients include Beyonce, Angela Lansbury, Susan Sarandon, and Katy Perry.

Hattie Carnegie was born Henrietta Kanengeiser in Vienna, Austria-Hungary. She was the second of seven children, and lived in poverty in her youth. The family immigrated to the United States when she was still a child, and settled in Manhattan. After her father’s death in 1902, Hattie took a job as a messenger at Macy’s to help support her family, and in 1904 she modeled and trimmed hats at a millinery.
In 1909 Hattie branched out, launching a hat making business with dressmaker Rose Roth, but by 1919 Roth had left the business, leaving Carnegie as the owner of “Hattie Carnegie, Inc,” a company that had a working capital of $100,000. Carnegie began traveling to Paris to buy original dresses to both sell in her shop, and use as inspiration for her own garment and accessory designs. Carnegie was instrumental in bringing Paris fashion to the United States; she imported Lanvin, Molyneux, Patou, Schiaparelli, Vionnet, and others, lavishing New York with gorgeous garments and groundbreaking designers that would have not crossed the pond otherwise. Carnegie also discovered and nurtured the talents of many prominent American designers, including Norman Norell, Pauline Trigère, and James Galanos. In 1925, Carnegie bought a building off of Park Avenue to house her $3.5-million-a-year business, and stayed there producing pieces throughout the Great Depression.
During World War II French haute couture came to a standstill. Carnegie rose to prominence on the international stage as an authority on fashion, and her works were seen in the theatre, cinema and on magazine covers. Although still glamorous, her designs became more austere when the United States joined the Allied Powers. As a part of the war effort, Carnegie designed a dress for Life Magazine. The dress patterns were published in the magazine alongside detailed instructions; it was said that although the dress could have been made for as little as $5, the original dress was valued at $175. After the war, Carnegie continued her business, the epitome of perseverance.
Sometime in her early 20s, Hattie had taken the last name Carnegie after Andrew Carnegie, the industrialist, philanthropist, and richest man in the United States during her lifetime. She certainly lived up to the name, having worked her way through and out of an impoverished childhood and into a glamorous life doing what she loved, while still grossing millions a year. Carnegie passed away in 1956, having been instrumental in the diffusion of Parisian fashion into American society, having nurtured the finest designing minds of the early and mid 20th century, and having designed all manner of enchanting things, including hats, handbags, gloves, jewelry, furs, lingerie, cosmetics, and even perfume.
