This 1970s mod (with a nod to art nouveau revival) dress by Lanvin is absolutely gorgeous! The dress features long, full cuffed sleeves, an exaggerated pointed wing collar, and includes a wide sash belt. The shirtwaist dress buttons from hem to collar. The amazing floral print begins as a woven geometric design that blooms upwards into flowers. The print's vibrant azure blue, apple green, and bold Hollywood pink lie vividly against a white background. Fantastic!

Take a look at this fascinating tunic styled top from early Geoffrey Beene. The top is tailored with vents on each side and decorative green bows. It has a long zipper closure on the back as well as a lightweight silk lining.
Geoffrey Beene began his career in the 1950s, designing under numerous New York houses including Teal Traina, finally opening his own label in 1963. Beene was incredibly conscious of the human body, and was particularly regardful of the figure in motion - as Beene once said “clothing is nothing until it hits the body." His designs were created to work with the client’s body, encasing it lightly and giving it a more artful structure. Beene's reinterpretations of dress formality, use of synthetics, and unusual combination of materials (accessories in acrylic and diamonds, for example), set him aside from his contemporaries who focused on the business of fashion, rather than the artistry of fashion.

Playful yet vampy in that particularly Biba style! The shimmering purple metallic dress falls slightly above the knee, has long sleeves, an empire waist, deep V - neckline, and ribbon waist tie on back. The dress is fantastic, with subtle 1970s - does - Victorian details like the puffed shoulders, pinched bustline, and pointed sleeve. The deep purple is so totally Biba, we can just picture it in the boudoir - like atmosphere of the Big Biba department store on Kensington, displayed between a black vase of golden peacock feathers and a plush velvet settee.
This Mini dress is the classic "The Biba Look;” the doe eyed waif that was the hippest on the streets of London and about town. It was just this kind of dress and the fact that “young ... beautiful skinny”* women such as Anna Wintour worked at the store, that made the label and the look so desired then and both collectible and wearable today!

Grunge fashion meets superior comfort with this impeccable dress from Ivan Grundahl!
This dress consists a medley of different fabrics in a tasteful patchwork style. in grey and black. Its stretch allows for movement and includes a high cowl neck that further adds to the design.
From Ivan Grundahl Face Book Page -
"With a heritage of dark Nordic aesthetics, a rebellious spirit and bespoken fashion, founder Ivan Grundahl was an unchallenged avant-garde créateur in Denmark.
Straddling layering and structure, the style is deconstructed, draped and manipulated, and with the subtile nods to uniforms. Black and monochromes conjure dark emotion which is offset by lightness and poetic fragility. Ivan Grundahl is rooted in contrasts, between construction and fluidity, and balances raw simplicity with sophistication trough distressed materials, natural fibers and premium leather. It speaks to empowered and independent women who appreciate craftsmanship and clever sensuality."

Stunning black maxi dress by Leonard!
This full length dress has a slight flare below the waist with a beautifully inset contrast that follows the hem all the way up to the bodice. It features a wide scooped neckline and the same green floral contrast outlines the silhouette. There is an adjustable belt at the waist that breaks up more of black space creating a pretty juxtaposition. Zipper closure center back.
Fun Fact: In 1954 Leonard was simply a textile company but in 1958 they invited Daniel Tribouillard to start a new fashion line venture. Daniel proved to be an indispensable asset to the firm and in 1960 invented a new method that allowed knits to be continuously printed! This method is still used today!

Interesting and Hypnotizing full length maxi by Leonard.
This spot on dress blends aspects of tribal art with autumnal colors on a black ground. It boasts a 70's style attached necktie and bishop sleeves that were popular for that era. Buttons are fabric covered and create a front closure. This dress is full length and the print is too entrancing to ignore as it zig-zags throughout the entirety of the garment.
It would be interesting to see how this dress would look styled with geometric or gold brutalist style jewelry.
Leonard was first a textile company then in 1954 Daniel Tribouillard joined the house and in 1958 began making garments. The prints are designer bright florals on silk jersey knit fabric. The house is still alive today and creates lines similar to those from the past preserving a unique style.
