Fantastic 1960s metallic caftan in gold, blue, and copper attributed to Trigere. During the turn of the 20th century western designers looked east for exotic inspiration, included in the group was Pauline Trigere especially in love with the fabrics of the east. This caftan embodies the exotic details of many of Mrs. Trigere's gowns and coats of the 60's that we have collected over the years, with its golden trim that has iridescent flecks and metallic fabric in an interesting print with bright metallic gold, blue and copper threads. The copper threads bring this vintage piece current. Long sleeves, bust darts and a high left slit create the silhouette unlike other figureless caftans. Trim follows the neckline down around the hem. Fully lined with a polished cotton pumpkin colored fabric. Zipper at back. This is a favorite at MRS Couture!

Roy Halston Frowick was born on 1932 in Des Moines, Iowa. He initially took inspiration to sew from his grandmother. He would create hats for his mother and alter clothing for his sisters. His foundation in fashion progressed in his teen years as he attended Indiana University for a short spell and then The Art Institute of Chicago while earning funds through creating windows displays. Hat making would be his first love and in 1957 opened his first shop. While he had a small but important following, it wasn’t until Jacqueline Kennedy wore her famous (Halston) Pillbox hat in ‘61 that he became an instant success. He rode the wave of fame and fortune for a while but once hats started to go out of fashion, so did Halston’s sales. Halston’s low point would prove to be a test for what was next in his life. After much experimentation, a failed collection, and the help of his well curated team, he developed the minimalist yet irresistible look we all know and love! He was a true creator of culture during his time. Halston’s work was revered within the studio 54 crowd, worn by all the “It Girls” and on the cover of popular magazines.

Colorful one piece full length wrap dress coat featured at the famous "Suffering Moses" boutique known for curating all forms of artisan created wares, including works of crewel textiles.
The dress coat features an elaborate, fully embroidered floral collar and cuffs, as well as a beautiful v-neck style embroidery around the dress' neck. The back of the dress has a large arrow-style embroidery pointing down the back. The cut of this piece is really quite remarkable - the coat and dress are one and the same! One puts on the dress portion first by draping it across the front of the body, then follows that up by wrapping the coat around the back. Very cool!
The "Suffering Moses" Atelier was established in the 1840s, championing Iranian crafting traditions and merging them with the artistic customs of the Kashmir Valley - where the store resides. The atelier is headed by the Wani family whose crafting dynasty continues into the 21st century. The atelier employs artisans who meticulously handcraft each item, using techniques that date back centuries - a rare delight in these machine-embroidered times!
