Elegant wool shift dress in warm yellow camel color by Hubert de Givenchy. The dress is sleeveless, with a tight jewel neckline, and is knee length. The front of the dress is adorned with four buttons running down the center right, two pockets, one on the upper right bust, and one on the lower left hip.
Givenchy is known best for his elegant and innovative haute couture. He began his career working under Elsa Schiaparelli, Jacques Fath, Robert Piguet, and Lucien Lelong. As a young man, he worked alongside Pierre Balmain and Christian Dior who were also making their mark on Parisian fashion.
Givenchy designed Audrey Hepburn’s iconic “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” dress, popularizing the modern “little black dress”. He also designed much of Hepburn’s personal wardrobe. Givenchy was always reinventing himself and with that, revolutionizing the state of fashion. He is credited for creating the “baby doll” dress and “balloon coat,” two designs emblematic of the 1960s.

Alaia moved to Paris in the 1950s, after finishing his studies at the École des Beaux-Arts in Tunisia. He worked for various houses and designers including Christian Dior, Guy Laroche, and Thierry Mugler, before striking it out on his own. Alaia’s work caught the discerning eyes of the Parisian elite, including Countess Nicole de Blégiers and Louise de Vilmorin, as well as Greta Garbo.
In the 1980s, Alaia rose to prominence on the international stage with his body conscious, curve hugging designs. “The Trinity” of reigning supermodels of the day, Naomi Campbell (with whom he shaded a loving father-daughter relationship(he would even take her to dentist appointments!)), Linda Evangelista, and Christy Turlington, were seen time and time again in his slinky dresses and sky high heels. He also designed much of the wardrobe of Grace Jones' character “May Day” in the 1985 James Bond Film “A View to Kill”.
In the 1990s, after the death of his beloved sister Hafida, Alaia withdrew from fashion. He eventually returned after conducting a series of business moves in the 2000s -involving Prada and the Richmond group (owner of Chloe and Cartier)- that would guarantee his artistic freedom as well as financial safety.
Azzedine Alaia was the master of his own destiny, rejecting aspects of the fashion industry including the traditional calendar, timelines, and advertising norms. He refused to bend to the market’s will. He was a perfectionist who would show his work only when it was finished. Alaia was internationally renowned, his designs appearing on the covers of magazines, runways across the globe, and in the halls of Museums. He was made a chevalier of the Légion d’Honneur in 2008.

Truly Couture and intricate floral dress designed by Marc Bohan for a New York artist and philanthropist that was considered Rockefeller's favorite grandchild*. A true lover of the art of fashion and friend of Dior and other designers such as Madame Gres and Yves Saint Laurent, the gown's owner treated each piece designed for her as if it belonged in a museum, including keeping each original sketch (croquis) and fabric swatch. We have decided that the two items (the dress and the art) must be sold together as the dress was originally conceived and ultimately executed.
The dress hits just above the knee, has long sleeves and a high but loose mock turtleneck collar. The dress consists of a dress layer organza fabric topped by and hand sewn to a deep blue floral lattice lace. The sheer fabric peeks out from under the lace at the collar, sleeves, and hem. The dress' waist is accented by a blue gross grain ribbon with a bow at the front, topped by a white, organza rose. Lined with a silk slip hand sewn and attached with thread chains. Such art!
Beautiful Bonus: The ninth image displays the design's illustration s as well as a fabric sample of the flower lace and is in and of itself a piece of art worth of hanging in a museum!

This example of Christian Dior's early work is quite extraordinary. The New York label was made in America for the American market based on runway designs, and used many Couture standards known to some as Demi-Couture. Excellent, museum quality condition. Remarkable tailored cape and coordinating dress designed in a hounds tooth wool fabric. Knee length dress with front button placket. Black buttons. Long sleeves. Front button cape is molded to the shoulders with an exaggerated collar and a complement to the dress completing this amazing "New Look" suit. The beautiful ensemble, which appears unworn, is lined throughout omitting the sleeves. The panel on the bodice buttons and snaps into place. Tulle lines the panels of the skirt to add slight volume where intended. Side zipper.

This 1980's classic style print by Michael Vollbracht, is a two piece ensemble made of silk crepe. Wear it together or wear the pieces separately as each piece is a beautiful "stand alone" work. Vollbracht placed his signature within the long and flowing skirt's print. A French seamed blouse has a hidden button front, fantastic bishop sleeves and fun tie at neck. Black, red and cream polka dot silk are sewn together in a stripe pattern with coordinating detail on the tie. The red waist band zips to the side as it gathers at waist. The Vollbracht Print ends three inches from hem.

1980s Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche beautiful blue leather jacket and skirt ensemble. Both YSL pieces are lined. The jacket has shoulder pads, making for structured shoulders. It has a center front zipper closure and two working pockets with zippers. The front hem of the jacket is in a V shape. The skirt has a front zipper closure as well, and it runs about half way down the skirt, allowing for a 9" slit down the rest of center front. The skirt has thick belt loops along the waistband and two working pockets. Leather reconditioned.

1980s Koos van den Akker Floral Plaid Ensemble

Fun and vibrant 1980's three piece halter top, skirt and crop jacket with cummerbund ensemble by recently deceased and unique designer Koos van den Akker who worked for Christian Dior before traveling to his native home in Hague, Netherlands and then back to New York City with a sewing machine and $180 going on to establish stores in the Big Apple and Beverly Hills. He was also the designer of the famed Bill Cosby Sweaters. With an attention to detail and a background in window displays. Van den Akker knew and used this talent in combination with his love for historic folk costumes. He could play play on folk concepts as inspiration for couture like no other. In this ensemble Van den Akker used a collage of floral, plaid and polka-dot prints for this work of art. Extremely well designed and executed, the stand alone Halter top has a zippered and button back closure, while the skirt has a flirty almost mock elastic waistband. The crop jacket has no closure. Can be worn as an ensemble or pieces to be paired with numerous other items in your closet. A truly unique creation and a beautiful example of his work!
