Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo created this gown in a Venetian palazzo and it was originally purchased in 1919. Beautifully shaped in luxurious black silk the gown is delicately pleated in the secretive Fortuny manner with heat and ceramic rods. The silk was dyed several times to enrich the color. Murano glass beads are strung on silk cord along the seams providing a smooth graceful silhouette. The gown is inspired by the Greek chiton and meant to be worn with-out undergarments; a racy suggestion for the early 1900s. Hand rendered label on inner side seam. Displayed on a size 6 mannequin and considered one size.
This Peplos measures at 56" in length and 16" from shoulder to shoulder.

Fabulous Polynesian-inspired jewelry set by Larry Vrba! This set features a collar-length necklace composed of faux pearls and carved seed beads with green spacer beads. The necklace pendant is an impressive floral bouquet composed of glass rhinestone cabochons and molded beads, as well as hand-molded polymer flowers (if you look closely you can see the artist's fingerprints!). The bouquet sits in an urn with Polynesian-inspired carving. The floral earrings are also primarily pink polymer, and feature light green cabochon leaves. The bouquet and urn can be removed from the necklace and used as a brooch, a versatile choice indicative of Vrba's innovative designs!
Lawrence Vrba began his career in 1969, working as a counter at Miriam Haskell; his talents did not go unnoticed, and he soon found himself designing jewelry. In 1970, when Miriam Haskell’s Head Designer, Bob Clark, left to work at Castlecliff, Vrba followed. Vrba spread his wings at Castlecliff, spearheading the famous Mayan collection, inspired by jewelry and adornments he saw on display at the Museum of Natural History in New York City. In 1973, after a two year stint at Castlecliff, Vrba returned to Miriam Haskell as head designer. Vrba continued to explore and expand the possibilities of costume jewelry, fashioning fine, unique pieces using materials he collected from across the globe. The Egyptian collection - perhaps his most famous Miriam Haskell collection- was inspired by materials he found while in Europe, and was featured in an edition of Vogue. In 1981s, Vrba left Miriam Haskell to work for Les Bernard, where his designs were displayed at Dillard’s for three years. In 1983 Vrba left Les Bernard to create his own eponymous business.
Vrba pieces are noted for their unusual materials, scale, and opulence!
Vrba has created pieces for theatre (including Broadway hits “Wicked”, “Exit the King”, “Blythe Spirit”, “Lend Me a Tenor”, and “Hairspray”, and the Metropolitan Opera), cinema, and private customers. His pieces have been featured at Bergdorf Goodman, Vogue, and Vogue Nippon. Clients include Beyonce, Angela Lansbury, Susan Sarandon, and Katy Perry.

Vollbracht placed his signature within the long and flowing skirt's print. A French seamed blouse has a hidden button front, fantastic bishop sleeves and fun tie at neck. Black, red and cream polka dot silk are sewn together in a stripe pattern with coordinating detail on the tie. The red waist band zips to the side as it gathers at waist. Mid 20th Century Blue Sequin Bolero

Wonderful vintage short sleeve bolero with blue sequins. Dress it up or dress it down... just dress in it! This piece is absolutely fantastic!!!! Mrs. Couture staff is arguing about whether it looks best over our black Norma Kamali jumpsuit or with a t-shirt, jeans and heels. Versatility is just another adjective to describe this piece. The sleeves have slight gathering around the shoulders. There is zig zag patterning along the center front and bottom hems. The soft mesh interior features sleeve headers and underarm shields. Glossy sequins throughout combined with a half-circle pattern of matte sequins in the back add depth to this fantastic piece of vintage outerwear. No closure. Very difficult to determine the year this was made but between the fabric, the stitch, the sequins, and the thread, but our best guess is the 1930's. Great piece to throw on with a plain tee and jeans!

Mid Century Arizona Biltmore Hotel Oversized Souvenir Scarf

This massive scarf depicts the famous Arizona Biltmore Hotel - the "Jewel of the Desert" in Phoenix's "Valley of the Sun" - with fabulous mid century flair!
The Arizona Biltmore Hotel opened in 1929, and was a favorite with Hollywood stars and affluent snowbirds looking to retreat and relax. The complex was designed by Prarie School architect Albert Chase McArthur, with Frank Lloyd Wright acting as a consultant. Although somewhat removed from the construction, Wright's work can be seen through out the hotel, including in the "Wright Sprites" in the garden, and in the "Saguaro Stained Glass" art piece in the lobby.
The hotel and its surroundings are at the center of the scarf, framed in a circle. The famous "Catalina Pool," known for being Marylin Monroe's favorite place to sunbathe, as well as being site where Irving Berlin wrote many of his classic songs, including "White Christmas," is visible in the middle right of the scarf. The corners of the scarf feature illustrations advertising the various activities available at the resort, including golf, tennis, shooting sports, and horse riding. The color palette of green, orange, red, white, and beige masterfully carve out space, with each color appearing crisp and bold.
Frequent guests to the Arizona Biltmore include: Sammy Davis Jr, Clark Gable, Carole Lombard, Martha Raye, Ronald and Nancy Reagan, Frank Sinatra, Joey Bishop.
Bonus: The hotel is the birthplace of the "Tequila Sunrise."

The fur has a cream-colored base with warm grey and white tips, creating an interesting variegated pattern on the fur. The fur is rather long and bounces when walking. The boots have a gently pointed toe and sit on a low heel.

Refined 1940s carnival glass beaded thermoset handbag. It is rare that a seed box bag of such an early origin remains in an amazing condition. The oblong-shaped purse features a tortoiseshell-tone thermoset lid, molded into an elegant scallop Venus shell shape. The body (including the base of the purse) and handle of the purse is covered in highly-polished black carnival glass beads. The strap is entirely beaded in glittering carnival glass, so as to compliment the fully-beaded, wonderfully textured body of the purse. The purse interior is lined with a flocked walnut suede - like fabric and contains a small open pocket. The piece has gold-tone hardware, including a push bottom spring clasp and flat nail heads. Great as a jewelry box as well!

We know and love Eisenberg for its fabulous rhinestone jewelry pieces and are delighted to share with you this fabulous handbag creation! In the 1940s Eisenberg briefly expanded its commercial reach by creating handbags, shoes, and garments; the production of these items was brief and limited. Therefore, they are extremely collectible because very few exist.
This handbag is composed primarily of soft black ulltra suede stretched over an a-frame handbag. The front of the handbag features two circular rhinestone clusters (what Eisenberg was best known for!) sitting on top of collar-like folds. The handbag has a silver - tone top handle and clasp. The interior of the handbag is lined in satin and has a large "Eisenberg Originals" label.

Madame Gres, was a genius and could could create gorgeous designs under even the most strict limitations. The gorgeous cloak is made of black wool, and features a rounded neckline as well as slits for arms. The wool is heavy, with strong, precise stitching. Designed by Madame Gres in the 1940s, this cloak reflects her talent for making art that thrives, despite the austerity measures enacted in France during and after WW2.

Born in Paris, around the turn of the 20th century, Madame Grès (nee Germaine Émilie Krebs, AKA Alix Barton, Alix) pursued sculpture before turning her interests towards fashion. Grès was initially a hat maker, but her eye for design soon propelled her into haute couture dressmaking. From the 1930s on, Grès had made a name for herself and counted a number of famous women in her client list, including: Wallis Simpson - the Duchess of Windsor, Princess Matilda of Greece, Paloma Picasso, Grace Kelly, Marella Agnelli, Marie-Helene de Rothschild, Edith Piaf, Jacqueline Kennedy, Dolores del Río, Barbra Streisand, Marlene Dietrich, and Greta Garbo.
During the German occupation of France in World War II, Madame Grès was ordered to design stark, utilitarian clothing, but defied the occupation government and continued to design sumptuous dresses in the red, white and blue of the French tricolour flag. Bewilderingly, despite being Jewish, German officers were said to have asked Grès to design dresses for their wives. Grès bravely refused. Both her refusal to design for the wives of occupying officers, and her refusal to design drab garments, played a part in the forced closing of her design house; her plenteous use of fabric during wartime was the excuse given.
After the war Grès' began to design her famous Grecian goddess gowns. Although her earlier work reflected the sculptural, grecian motifs that she exhibited in her later work, she truly came into her own by designing the Grecian goddess gowns. Like her earlier work, the Grecian goddess gowns championed simplicity and the liberty of movement, and were designed with the wearer in mind: the body was to shape and mold the dress, not the other way around.
Although her career stretched across several decades, Grès designs still remain timeless and unparalleled.
