This massive scarf depicts the famous Arizona Biltmore Hotel - the "Jewel of the Desert" in Phoenix's "Valley of the Sun" - with fabulous mid century flair!
The Arizona Biltmore Hotel opened in 1929, and was a favorite with Hollywood stars and affluent snowbirds looking to retreat and relax. The complex was designed by Prarie School architect Albert Chase McArthur, with Frank Lloyd Wright acting as a consultant. Although somewhat removed from the construction, Wright's work can be seen through out the hotel, including in the "Wright Sprites" in the garden, and in the "Saguaro Stained Glass" art piece in the lobby.
The hotel and its surroundings are at the center of the scarf, framed in a circle. The famous "Catalina Pool," known for being Marylin Monroe's favorite place to sunbathe, as well as being site where Irving Berlin wrote many of his classic songs, including "White Christmas," is visible in the middle right of the scarf. The corners of the scarf feature illustrations advertising the various activities available at the resort, including golf, tennis, shooting sports, and horse riding. The color palette of green, orange, red, white, and beige masterfully carve out space, with each color appearing crisp and bold.
Frequent guests to the Arizona Biltmore include: Sammy Davis Jr, Clark Gable, Carole Lombard, Martha Raye, Ronald and Nancy Reagan, Frank Sinatra, Joey Bishop.
Bonus: The hotel is the birthplace of the "Tequila Sunrise."

It wasn't until 1929 that Popeye, her love interest, was introduced. He was wildly popular, eventually earning his own spinoff franchise in the 1950s. Despite being introduced decades ago, the characters have remained popular in the United States and abroad; Olive Oyl celebrated her 100th birthday in 2019.

Stunning colorful floral dress made of smooth Thai silk. The dress is maxi length, with long, loose sleeves, an empire silhouette, and a high neckline with narrow V - neck slit. The print of the dress is just fantastic - chrysanthemums in neon pinks and purples pop on a black silk background, with streams of purple and pops of bright leaves in two - tone green. The bodice of the dress features bright red piping around the empire waist that is echoed in the frog buttons below the neckline, and in a panel of fabric that peeks out from the center slit of the skirt. Brilliant!
The Thai silk industry burst onto the global stage in the 1950s and 1960s, partly due to the efforts of Jim Thompson, an American businessman who helped introduce it to the American public. Thompson went missing in 1967, but his impact on the industry continues - his house has become a museum and pilgrimage site for those interested in Thai silk textiles and Southeast Asian art. This dress was created during the 1960s when there was a wave of interest in Thai silk and Asian art motifs, leading to the creation of various silk firms.

Bold 1960s - does - 1920s Art Deco print dress by Paganne! The dress falls below the knee, has long sleeves, and a jewel neckline. The dress has a loose sheath silhouette, with an A - line skirt and a more fitted bodice. The print is primarily purple, with splashes of light and dark green, as well as white. The piece features an amazing print of fashionable, flapper - type women strolling and posing. The print is very much Erte and Lepape, with strong shapes and stylized forms.
The Paganne label was created by Gene Berk in the 1960s. Berk studied to become a lawyer but found himself working in the fashion industry, merchandising for menswear, and at one point creating sportswear for Oleg Cassini. In the late 1960s Berk struck out on his own, and sent hand sketched designs to Italy so that they could be screen printed onto fabric. He was the American answer to the various French and Italian designers (Pucci, Lanvin, Leonard, and Bessi) who prized bold, graphic prints.
Berk would begin his creative process by designing the print first, and then deciding how it would be formed into a garment; often times the fabric would be used for various pieces. His prints were varied - botanical, geometric, modernist, figural - but all had the same 1960s/1970s bold flair, printed onto silk jersey, cotton knits, velvets, and Qiana nylon synthetics.
