Vintage George Simonton Black Cape with Fur Trim Capelet Detail

Striking vintage wool cape by George Simonton! The cape is midi length with a bell silhouette and a classic capelet that snaps over top of the cape. The capelet is trimmed in plush, glossy black rabbit fur, that wraps around the neckline, adding an extra dose of luxury and warmth to the piece. The sumptuous fur, wool, and feminine design reminds us of the ensembles of character Lara Guishar in Dr. Zhivago.

George M. Simonton Is an alumnus of FIT, and got his start when his designs attracted the eye of Happy Rockefeller, who judged his work at the the New York State Pavilion Contest at The World’s fair. He went on to work with Dan Millstein, Calvin Klein, and at C’est Simone. Millstein has lectured at FIT and The Smithsonian Institute, and starred in “I’ve Got Nothing To Wear,” a program where he advised stylists who work with fashion victims in need of help. Simonton is currently working on collections for Saks Fifth Ave, Nordstrom and Lord & Taylor.
