Description

Gorgeous 1950s bathing suit by Cole of California! This velvet one piece has loose ruching up the side seams of the long fitted top, emphasizing the wearer’s figure. A bandeau-look halter top bra with bow knot in the center creates the appearance of a sweetheart neckline. Attached shorts that peek out from under the top.

The suit is from the estate of Elsa Rosborough, famed Houston-based model and educator at the University of Houston’s Human Development and Consumer Sciences Department. Rosborough modeled well into her 80s, appearing in national advertisements or Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Life, Look, McCall’s, Ladies Home Journal, Town and Country, Parade, and the Saturday Evening Post. She met the movers and shakers of the fashion world, including Christian Dior, Anne Klein, Bill Blass, Oscar de la Renta, Halston, and Calvin Klein, as well as celebrities, such as John Wayne.

Included with the piece is a handwritten note by Rosborough detailing the circumstances surrounding her wearing the suit. A photograph of Rosborough has been placed as our 6th image.
