Description

AMAZING bright red Gripoix glass floral earrings! These astounding statement earrings were created by the illustrious Maison Gripoix, known for their amazing poured glass pate de verre jewelry technique! The earrings feature a black sphere center flanked by four red poppy petals and four bright blue tendrils extending from underneath the center. The petals have a bezel settings.
In 1869 Augustina Gripoix began creating glass pearl and gem jewelry using the pate de verre technique, and quickly found herself making jewelry for Europe’s nobility. Initially the pieces she created were replicas of fine jewelry her clients already owned - they commissioned her to make them so that in the event of theft they would still at least own a copy of their stolen piece. Eventually Augustina branched out and began crafting her own pieces which were a hit, essentially creating the market for costume jewelry! In the 1920s Augustina’s daughter, Suzanne, collaborated with Coco Chanel, thus beginning Maison Gripoix’s involvement with couture fashion houses. Clients include: Chanel, Schiaparelli, Yves Saint Laurent, Dior, Poiret, Balenciaga, Lanvin, Balmain, Lacroix, Patou.
