1950's Black Satin Floral “WaldyBag” Hand Painted and Beaded in England

This Waldy Bag is expertly crafted with artisan hand painted flora and textured clear beading.

The interior is a crisp black satin that has two pockets on each side and comes with a beautiful coin purse! The hardware of this purse is gold tone with a kiss lock closure. Made in England.

Waldy Bags were made popular by H. Wald & Co. during WWIi and were worn by the British Royal family. Numerous examples can be seen at the V&A museum. Per the museum, “ ... they were in complete contrast to the special shoulder bags designed to carry personal gas masks (compulsory in Britain throughout 1939-1945) ...”

The bags were hand painted by Florence Campbell, a Jewish-German immigrant, and covered with tiny clear beads that made them glisten.
